Greetings and salutations.

So is my ass hanging out here or what. I have been lurking for a long
time but have never posted so I really don't know what the hell I am
doing. The current situation has knocked me off my perch though and I
can't keep quiet. If you have any security suggestions over what little
I have, please let me know.
Its nice to see a PC and a Mac guy working together. Cheers

Thanks. I can see my own header though. I guess what I wanted to know
was if there was anything that could be gleened from the header or
anywhere esle in my post that traces back to my ISP or my IP. You know,
the dangerous stuff. Is the path and issue? Anyways, my goal is to
"talk" and any help in facilitating that is appreciated. Seriously, I'm
cool so give a brother a hand:-)

no malice or insult intended

really though, if there's anything [fixed] in the way of
message id, path, isp, newsfeed service, etc., can be
tracked/traced -IF NECESSARY- to an originator.
meaning, that if someone posts anything unpermitted,
any appropriate gov. entity could persue identification
of them (in US at present, with court-ordered warrents).

using anonymous remailers, proxies, etc. is usually the
recommended course for annonymity.
search the web for "Galactus", a nym used by a person
of some knowledge in these matters. his website is
changing though, so things may be different these days.
search also for a document on same subject by "Dr. Who"
(NOT the british sci-fi guy) in some newsgroups.

Helpful suggestions are definately a good start. Thanks CD. The idea of
any "fixed" information being dangerous is good one. I have been
looking into various proxy servers and use TOR as well but when it
comes to usenet I have not invested enough time into researching
anonymity so your leads are helpful. Time to get off my lazy ass I
suppose. So much of the material I enjoy on the internet has either
come from usenet or KDX. There is this nice proxy server
http://www.privacy.li/index.htm but it costs $ so I am not currently
inclined to use it.
btw, I was not insulted at all by your first response, I kinda expected
some trepidation since I just popped up outa nowhere with some lame
post:-)

Hello Magpie,
I imagine "TOR" has something to do with tunneling, but what is it
actually, and what is "KDX"?

Hi gnube. Long time lurker here as well. Saw your call to talk
elsewhere after a sudden drop in posts from the big guys. I have been
scanning around and have not seen hide nor hair of most of them
including that most friendly of veggies (some would say fruit, like a
tomato, but I digress) since early August. So here I am, flying circles
over the various groups waiting to see if anyone bobs back up or sends
up a flare from a new group. Frankly, I am a little worried about what
this all may signify. Have any of you the same concerns? The trolls
have been increasingly active in a bunch of my fav places with posts
numbering in the thousands a day. Even my more legit favs like afos and
nubbins are getting some new unwanted traffic.
In regards to KDX, http://www.haxial.com/products/kdx/. I'll let you
read up on it. If I knew of a good way to screen members I would
suggest the 4 of us hook up using KDX since it has powerful incription
for chat and file transfers. It works for all OSs. It is free initially
and but after a month or so it will delay start up for 5 minutes if you
have not paid (big deal, I can use up 5 min doing something else like
scanning newsgroups) another client/server app I have used is Carracho,
its older and dates back to the days of hotline. It has been a
shrinking community since the advent of KDX, but the nice thing for
some of is that it is Mac only. No offense, but the windows world seems
to be a bit seedier with lots of scams, thats what happened to Hotline,
yuck. If you guys end up being interested in KDX, let me know. Maybe we
can figure something out. look forward to hearing from ya'll.

Who started the originating thread where you learned of *this* location?

The web is almost as naked as eMail.
Even though I only do text Q & A on occassion, I just won't go there.

to give cause for concern. So you're right, I am concerned (or was?).

No, didn't look for any pics; only trying to post text msg. for convo,
but having no luck in groups mentioned, in that regard.

Single pic of someone you would know, from what apeared to be a new
site along the lines of xxxxx xxxxx etc. Txxxxxs has petty much
answered my unspoken question. Wish there were someplace to drop a
quick message, headsup etc rather than wasting space here and possibly
annoying people..you know..."Dratted lurkers asking questions again".
Uh... the dratted luker being persons like myself who have not much to
contribute but may stumble across some useful info from time to time.
Hope all is well with everyone, but especially xxxxx xxx.
1) unrecognized
2) discussion place? perhaps a.t.d-r (alt.ta*) -- look for it -- low usage
...or at least a place to use as a starting place until a better one is
settled upon

Did you catch the not so clever references to the various groups I
(have) frequented? I am not clear on what you mean by 3° and 2° off
center? You worried I'm law or troll? should I just spell out the
groups? maybe some collection names? Seriously, I go way back and I am
starting to feel a little too exposed myself cause I am a paranoid SOB
and I am not properly protected yet. I never talked to anyone in the
groups before and I have seen how nasty people get sometimes. I saw an
oppurtunity when you guys went off into the bushes to talk to make
some acquaintances that I would not have dared to attempt in the
groups. I am glad CD made the cut. I'll keep my eyes and ears open.

Have fun,

Stay safe,

Magpie, I apologize.

This is mostly based on my own perceptions, not on anything
of any substance you've done.
Memory is short, sometimes! I recently changed to an new nym
and tried to introduce myself to some "new" groups. A few
people were polite and helpful, but I didn't feel welcomed,
except for opal and o.t.s.; I suppose I was just trying too
much to join in, but since I don't post content, I'm still
an outsider, of sort. That's the breaks, I guess.
btw -- do old habits die hard, or is that last signature just

people were polite and helpful, but I didn't feel welcomed,
except for opal and o.t.s.; I suppose I was just trying too
much to join in, but since I don't post content, I'm still
an outsider, of sort. That's the breaks, I guess.
btw -- do old habits die hard, or is that last signature just
borrowed from the gaurden? ;D

No, not really. Perhaps I can call it a difference of sensitivities,
faulting heavily towards my side. Hey, nobody's perfect.

Did you catch the not so clever references to the various groups I
(have) frequented? I am not clear on what you mean by 3∫ and 2∫ off
center? You worried I'm law or troll? should I just spell out the
groups? maybe some collection names? Seriously, I go way back and I
am starting to feel a little too exposed myself cause I am a paranoid
SOB and I am not properly protected yet. I never talked to anyone in
the groups before and I have seen how nasty people get sometimes. I
saw an oppurtunity when you guys went off into the bushes to talk to
make some acquaintances that I would not have dared to attempt in the
groups. I am glad CD made the cut. I'll keep my eyes and ears open.

Magpie, I apologize.
This is mostly based on my own perceptions, not on anything
of any substance you've done.

Nah, no real disagreement. I'm just a little edgy and not accustomed to
scrutiny of this kind, he he. Plus my allergies are making me a little
touchy (sniff#). As for the last signature, definately borrowed from
the purpley prince of posting.
So, what happened? I read something from rod that made me really worry
about the future of things. I s this it? Gotta run, I'll check back
later.
Peace, and thanks gnube, opal and CD

Hello all!

I have very little time, so I'm just going to
jump in here with a few replies to a few people...

Poor netiquette, but it can't be helped.

Hello, Magpie:
No one is posting ATM, and there are no new groups.
This little get-together is the first step in the
right direction.

BTW, 'veggie' was fine recently, but is also not
posting.

Quiz time.
Who started the originating thread where you learned of *this* location?
(question already posed to CD elsewhere, and his/her answer was fine)
Hello, gnuBe:
With all due respect, quiz is kinda irrelevant.
Anyone could stumble across info posted openly
and find their way here. There's even a troll
who knows the place where the info was posted,
but it's possible that the troll moved on, or
doesn't read all messages there.

In regards to KDX, http://www.haxial.com/products/kdx/. I'll let you
read up on it. If I knew of a good way to screen members I would
Hello again, Magpie:
I have numerous concerns about this KDX. Looks
too much like P2P, and I can't find any info on
how proxies are supported. P2P or BBS with your
ass hanging out is a very bad thing.

Further concerns continue below:

No such 'good way' to screen members exists.
However, above all else, all members must be
completely anonymous to each other. This
includes not joining any network where your
true IP will be visible to others on the
network.

suggest the 4 of us hook up using KDX since it has powerful incription
for chat and file transfers. It works for all OSs. It is free initially
Encryption is useless if the recipient is one
of the 'bad guys'. If you are also non-anon,
you are identifiable (and nailable) no matter
how well-encrypted you are.

and but after a month or so it will delay start up for 5 minutes if you
have not paid (big deal, I can use up 5 min doing something else like
scanning newsgroups) another client/server app I have used is Carracho,

its older and dates back to the days of hotline.

Stay away from KDX unless it can be proven to be
useable in an anonymous manner. I have found no
*built-in* anonymity with KDX so far.

The web is almost as naked as eMail.
Even though I only do text Q & A on occassion, I just won't go there.
Let's see how it goes with your reply.
hopefully I can fiX your concerns with "not a request" by Opal with CL
and T each chiming in on the thread. hopefully my response is not too
riKaty or addolessant. Ive been lurking so long it feels like it's My
CuLT only, black cat and all. I am not jewish but this deserves a Oi.
Hopefully your not bAd company either, but I think not. well time for
me to go let my hussKy out and end my Lame Series, uh, series ... oh,
nevermind
I feel like a dumb ass. Did I over do it?
You have made your interests abundantly clear,
but you must understand that it is impossible to
ascertain your reasons for being interested.

You, I, or anyone else could have ulterior motives
for being here - hence my belief in the need for
anonymity.

KDX is not web based,Its a bbs type system by the way, and it allows
for proxies. I know some serious outlaws who have opperated on it for
years sharing warez, pron and tunes. I am here just to figure things
out, not get in the way. Lead the way dude
AFAIK, most BBS systems use FTP or similar protocol,
which tends to be rather difficult to proxify. Your
'serious outlaws' may have been merely overlooked.
In any BBS system, *someone* has to be the server.
And their IP has to be findable, otherwise there is
no way for anyone to connect to them.

Findable IP = findable operator = bad news

Greetings and salutations.
So is my ass hanging out here or what. I have been lurking for a
long time but have never posted so I really don't know what the hell
I am doing. The current situation has knocked me off my perch though
and I can't keep quiet. If you have any security suggestions over
what little I have, please let me know.
Its nice to see a PC and a Mac guy working together. Cheers

Thanks. I can see my own header though. I guess what I wanted to know
was if there was anything that could be gleened from the header or
anywhere esle in my post that traces back to my ISP or my IP. You
know, the dangerous stuff. Is the path and issue? Anyways, my goal is
to "talk" and any help in facilitating that is appreciated. Seriously,
I'm cool so give a brother a hand:-)
Hello Magpie, I have the same questions and concerns...rather clueless
I'm afraid...even so...welcome. I'll be following the discussions here
looking for tips as well.

Hey Opal, nice to finally chat with some of you clowns. bummer that the
bottom dropped out on our fav posts. Hopefully things will improve and
we'll smart'n up in the process. I just hope nothing bad happened to
the "big guys". I'll be checking in to chat with you and gnube if thats
alright. This is kinda like regrouping outside a burning building, know
what I mean?
