alert, some group info, security tips for dummies or the possible hint on
where to look if things go pear shaped. Kudos to gnube for finding this
spot. In my opinion things are working just like they should. Not really
interested in an exclusive, private club (not sure which "four" you alluded
to earlier...?) at the moment. Hope this sounds the way it's intended..but
IMO things are rolling along quite nicely just as they are.

Hello, opal!

I do not have time to discuss this thoroughly,
but please take my advice:

Stay in Usenet! It's one of the last places that
are *relatively* safe for those who lurk and D/L
only.

Avoid any kind of P2P if you don't absolutely know
what you are doing. You *can* be found if you D/L
from P2P unsafely.

Never engage in any activity that obligates you to
reveal any personal info to anyone. Nothing about
who you are, where you live, etc, and especially
not your IP or email addy. For best results, do
not even name your hobbies or interests if you are
non-anonymous.

Trust no one.

I hope to post a small test tomorrow in my usual
spot. I can make no promises - I just want to
test my posting capability. If it even partially
succeeds you will at least know that I am who
I say that I am.

True, usenet is absolutely great for picking up images and some other
goods. Problem is that you have to rely on people getting around to
posting what you want and hoping that its all there...blah blah, you
know the problems. Also, if you want anything large like an
application, game, or movie then your chances of a successful download
are less and you must be timely in the downloads or miss the
oppurtunity all together as the posts expire. Obviously I am a great
fan of usenet though and you'll find some material here that you will
never find anywhere else. But the nice thing about apps like KDX or
Carracho is that the files are there in their entirety, and there for
as long as the admin of the server deems to keep it available. You also
get the benefit of being able to search for specific files on a server.
What I really like is the ability to chat in real time with multiple
individuals from all over the world.
Yes, don't reveal any personal information. Fortunatly, you are not
obligated too when you use certain "p2p" apps. KDX allows for proxies
and total anonymity, the file and chat transfers are encrypted so your
ISP or anyone else can't see what youre doing. If you don't want to
collect what we collect by any other fashion than usenet, cool, I don't
either. I mean, hell, youre the first folks I have ever talked to about
it, ever. But if you are interested in some of the more main stream
stuff like the latest aplications for youre mac or copy of that movie
or game you have been wanting then I would recomend KDX or Carracho for
us mac guys. I can vouch for it as I have been a heavy user for over
ten years. google Haxial KDX and read up. While youre at it, google
"bit torrents" thats a whole other bag for getting stuff too,
effective, but not as fun. Don't limit yourself, like the big purple
garden plant said " have Fun, stay Safe" ( god, I miss that guy already
)
Cheers,
